Brazilian Utility to Expand Sao Paulo Wastewater Treatment Plant

State utility Sabesp has launched a tender to expand its Parque Nova Mundo wastewater treatment plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for R$70m ($43m).

Sabesp will award a two-year contract to carry out the work, which will include expanding the plant’s treatment capacity to 4.5m³ per second from 2.5m³ per second, reports bnamericas.com.

A Sabesp spokesperson said that single firms must have $4.2m to bid, while consortiums will require $5.5m.

The expansion is part of the R$10.5m ($6.4bn) phase III of Sao Paulo’s Tiete river clean-up plan, which consists of remediating contamination and expanding wastewater collection and treatment.

Phase III is expected to be completed in 2015.
