Philippine Agencies Sign IRR for Water and Sanitation Programme

Government agencies in the Philippines have joined forces to sign the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) for a water and sanitation programme targeting the country’s waterless municipalities.

The agencies include the Department of Health, the National Anti-Poverty Commission and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The aim of the programme is to increase the country’s water service coverage to 155 priority waterless municipalities.

The IRR covers the steps and procedures for the project implementation, arrangement, management structures, funds transfer and the utilisation of funds.

DILG secretary Jesse Robredo said the programme will also provide capacity development to the municipalities and water service providers in the implementation and management of their water supply and sanitation services.
