Lokoja Water Project to End Water Crisis

The State Government of Kogi in Nigeria has completed construction work on the N10bn ($63m) Greater Lokoja water project, which will begin operations next month.

The project is expected to generate ten million gallons of water per day and end the city’s perennial water crisis.

The project will complement the existing water works and raise the level of water supplies to Lokoja and its environs from the present two million gallons per day to 12 million gallons per day.

Emmanuel Bello, permanent secretary of the State Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development, said the project was connected to all existing structures to ensure the effective distribution of water from the new waterworks to parts of Lokoja and the adjoining towns of Ganaja, Zango, Kabba, Obajana and Gadumo.

The construction of the water development, which started in 2008, was handled by the Chinese Geo Construction Company, according to the Nigerian Observer.
