Conagua to Construct $172m Irrigation Canal in Mexico

Mexican water authority Conagua is to build a 30km irrigation canal in Baja California with a total investment of Mex2bn ($172m).

Conagua will build the new canal along the Colorado River, replacing the old system that collapsed during an earthquake in 2010, according to bnamericas.com.

The authority will begin the tender process in October 2011, with construction work scheduled to start in November 2012.

On completion, the canal will serve 33 villages covering a 280km² area.

Conagua will also construct a regional emergency service centre in Mexicali to ensure the area has the necessary infrastructure and equipment required to meet water emergencies.
