Degremont to Expand Wastewater Treatment Plant in Doha

Public Works Authority of the State of Qatar (Ashghal) has awarded a €35m contract to Suez Environment’s subsidiary Degremont to expand the Doha West wastewater treatment and recycling plant.

Under the contract, the plant will be expanded to increase its capacity from 135,000cu/m to 175,000cu/m per day, to serve about 650,000 inhabitants.

The expansion is part of a contract signed in 2005 to design, build and operate the plant for a period of 10 years.

The facility, which is equipped with a state-of-the-art membrane ultrafiltration system, will allow 85% of treated wastewater to be recycled, which will be reused to irrigate green areas and market gardens and to recharge the aquifers.

The contract is being implemented as part of a joint venture between Degremont and its Japanese partner Marubeni Corporation.
