Rodale Institute and EPA Complete Water Treatment Facility in Pennsylvania

Rodale Institute and the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) have completed the construction of the Water Purification Eco-Center at the Rodale Institute in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, US.

The centre consists of an on-site wastewater treatment system that captures rainwater and reuses it several times before filtering it through a constructed wetlands garden, watering the landscape and returning it to the soil as clean water.

Rodale Institute executive director Smallwood said the centre will meet the needs of homeowners, developments and even small municipalities.

The natural processes of constructed wetlands scrub wastewater to a level that is twice as clean as that of a traditional septic system and are capable of removing pathogens and organic contaminants.
