Malaysia to Commence Water Fluoridation Programme

The Malaysian state of Sabah is to begin the first phase of a water fluoridation programme by the end of this year.

Under the first phase, the state Infrastructure Development Ministry has identified 11 state water treatment plants, of which six will be upgraded and five will receive the latest fluoridation technology systems.

The following phases will cover both government and private sector water treatment plants, reports bernama.com.

The low content of fluoride in piped water has lead to a high number of dental cavities in the region, which the government plans to combat by reintroducing a fluoridation programme that was stopped in 1989.
