Palestine Extends Gaza Strip Sewage Network

The Palestinian Water Authority and the Coastal Municipal Water Utility has jointly launched a project for the extension of the sewage network in the city of Rafah, which is located on the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

The project will remove any groundwater contamination from untreated water released into the environment to check the reduction in drinking water supply.

Studies reveal that there is only 5% of unsalted water in the groundwater of the Gaza Strip while the rest is salted water, which needs expensive water treatment.

The project is financed mainly by the French Development Agency (AFD), which donated €500,000.

AFD’s work also allowed the installation of a 13.5km sewage network, connecting 3,000 Al Juneina residents, according to english.wafa.ps.
