Thailand to Invest $20bn in Water Management Improvements

The Finance Ministry of Thailand is to invest THB638bn ($20bn) in its water management and agricultural infrastructure over the next five years.

The Water Resources Department will receive THB81.3bn ($2.6bn) to rehabilitate existing sources, according to the Bangkok Post.

The Irrigation Department will receive THB480bn (15bn) to develop medium and large-scale irrigation systems, while the Groundwater Resources Department will receive THB34.3bn ($1bn) to develop potable water sources for rural communities.

Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Areepong Bhoocha-oom said water management was critical in helping improve the agricultural sector and addressing Thailand’s seasonal flooding problems.
