GE Unveils Next-Generation MBR Wastewater Treatment Technology

GE has developed a next-generation membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment technology to address the pressing water quality and operational cost issues faced by municipalities, and industrial and residential water / wastewater treatment facilities worldwide.

The new LEAPmbr system will offer the lowest lifecycle costs available, while being cost-competitive with conventional treatment, according to GE.

The MBR technology consists of a suspended-growth biological reactor integrated with GE’s ZeeWeed hollow-fibre ultrafiltration membranes.

GE Power & Water vice-president Jeff Connelly said MBR technology is one of the fastest-growing water treatment technologies, and GE has made it an economic choice for greenfield plants, expansions and retrofits.
