Sri Lanka Plans $70m Water Supply Project

Sri Lanka’s National Water Supply and Drainage Board is to build a LKR7.7bn ($70.2m) water supply project in the district of Ampara.

A senior officer from the board said that the Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide LKR6.23bn for the project while the federal government will offer LKR1.46bn, according to sundayobserver.lk.

The project involves expanding the distribution channels of several water supply schemes and the construction of a pump house in Kondawattuwan.

The board will also build a new water supply scheme, which includes the construction of an intake house, water towers and laying raw water transmission main lines and a distribution system.

The capacity of the Dehiattakandiya treatment plant will also be increased.
