World Bank Approves Loan for Brazil’s Integrated Water Project

The World Bank has approved a loan of $107.3m (£66.6m) for the Federal Integrated Water Sector Project in Brazil to provide equitable, reliable and sustainable access to water supply and sanitation services.

The project will be jointly coordinated by the Brazilian Ministries of Environment, National Integration and Cities, and the National Water Agency.

The project will focus on five areas: water resources management; water, irrigation and disaster risk management; water supply and sanitation; intersector coordination and integrated planning; and project management, monitoring and evaluation.

Nabil Bonduki, secretary for Water Resources and Urban Environment of the Ministry of Environment, said the project will increase the planning and management capacities of the Ministries of Environment, Cities and National Integration, and will also help optimise resources and coordinate actions to increase water-use efficiency and proper management of solid waste.
