EPA to Protect Raritan River from Groundwater Contamination

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made an agreement with Wyeth Holdings to install a system for collecting and treating contaminated groundwater from the American Cyanamid Superfund site in New Jersey, US.

Wyeth will install a system to intercept and capture contamination from seeping groundwater that could affect the Raritan River, Cuckhold’s Brook and Middle Brook.

The firm will also perform studies to determine the movement of contaminated groundwater to find out if there are additional impacts to the water bodies.

In March 2011, Wyeth installed a temporary system on the Raritan River bank using activated carbon to mitigate the groundwater seeping problem.
