Araucaria Saneamento to Start $68m Wastewater Treatment Project

Brazilian water utility Sabesp has authorised the Araucaria Saneamento consortium to begin work on the R$106m ($67.9m) wastewater treatment project in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The consortium consists of Spanish firm Inima and Brazilian construction companies Cesbe Engenharia e Emprendimentos and Constructora Elevacao.

The consortium will build the wastewater treatment plant using a biological membrane system for conventional pre-treatment, sludge treatment and wastewater re-use components.

The scope of work will involve the installation of 7.8km interceptor pipeline, a 10km collector pipeline and three pumping stations.

A Sabesp spokesperson said that the utility aims to increase wastewater collection in the city to 65% and wastewater treatment to 100% by 2013, according to bnamericas.com.

The utility is planning the second phase of the project, which will increase wastewater collection coverage in Campos do Jordao to 85%.
