NSF to Implement Urban Water Infrastructure Research Center

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has selected Stanford University, New Mexico State University, Colorado School of Mines and the University of California to implement an Urban Water Engineering Research Center (ERC).

The aim of the Urban Water ERC is to reinvent ageing and inadequate water infrastructure in the US.

The Urban Water ERC will be led by Stanford, and involve researchers trained in the fields of environmental engineering, earth sciences, hydrology, ecology, urban studies, economics and law.

NSF will invest $18.5m in the centre over five years, with additional funds to follow based on in-progress reviews.

The centre’s research will include a three-pronged approach that combines fundamental investigations and applied research in engineered systems, natural systems and urban water management.
