EPA unveils groundwater treatment system in New York

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has introduced a treatment system that will remove contaminants from groundwater near the Lawrence Aviation site in New York, US.

The site’s groundwater is contaminated with volatile organic compounds, potentially harmful chemicals that came from the Lawrence Aviation site.

The treatment system will pump contaminated groundwater from nearby wells and filter sediment and debris from the water.

EPA regional administrator Judith Enck said the activation of the groundwater treatment system is a major step towards cleaning up the legacy of pollution that resulted from the Lawrence Aviation site.
