Indian State allocates $4bn for irrigation projects

The State Government of Karnataka is to provide Rs190bn ($4.1bn) for irrigation projects in the Upper Krishna basin in India.

The government will prepare a comprehensive action plan on irrigation projects by the end of December.

Karnataka chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda said that efforts will be made to protect the interest of farmers by using the state’s share in the Krishna River.

At the district of Bijapur, which has recorded less rain this year, the funds will be used to address drinking water problems, reports the Press Trust of India.
