New Jersey American Water to Build New Treatment Plant

New Jersey American Water said it plans to build a $72m Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant in Millburn Township in New Jersey, US.

Work on the plant is scheduled to start this year and will be finished by March 2012.

The plant will replace the 1920-built plant currently housed on the site.

The energy-efficient facility is expected to deliver 14 million gallons of water per day to the New Jersey American Water’s Short Hills service area.

US-based CDM Constructors has been selected to construct the plant.

The plant will use an upgraded water treatment processes and added security measures and data collection to protect the plant from occasional flooding.

The Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant comprises two reservoirs and is sited in an area covering 500 acres; the plant serves Essex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties.

New Jersey American Water is a subsidiary of American Water, which provides water and wastewater services.
