New Wastewater Treatment Plant Planned for San Jacinto

Construction of the $200m San Jacinto Valley Regional Water Reclamation Facility in San Jacinto, California, will begin this year, replacing the existing 40-year-old facility.

The project will see construction of a pump station and a 2.5-mile pipeline to divert up to 3 million gallons a day of sewage from the San Jacinto plant to an existing line on Cawston Avenue near Menlo Avenue in Hemet.

An additional biological treatment facility to reduce the total nitrogen in the water will also be provided.

Once complete, the plant’s capacity will increase to 14 million gallons a day and the treatment process will also be upgraded to meet stringent state requirements.

The project bids will be opened on 25 March as the district board plans to award a contract in April, according to pe.com.

The proposed plant will be built on the site west of Sanderson Avenue and north of Cottonwood Avenue, and is expected to be completed in 2014.

The funding for the project is expected to come from bonds, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act federal funding and state bond and grant programmes.
