ADB Funds Vietnam Water and Irrigation Systems

The Asian Development Bank has provided $100m in funding to rehabilitate the oldest and largest water and irrigation system in Vietnam.

The project aims to restore the Bac Hung Hai irrigation and drainage system located near the Red-Thai Binh river basin.

It will benefit the 1.9 million people in the irrigation system area with improved drainage and reduced risk of flooding.

The project also involves building a new campus for water resources university to educate water engineers.

Agence Française de Développement will co-finance the project with a loan of €20m while the Government of Vietnam will provide counterpart financing of $51m.
