Ireland Opens Ennis Water Treatment Facility

The new Ennis Water Treatment Works in County Clare, Ireland, has been officially unveiled.

Costing €9.8m ($13m), the plant features the largest membrane filtration system and offers high quality drinking water to approximately 30,000 consumers in Ennis town and surrounding areas.

The project was taken up following the detection of cryptosporidium in local water sources in 2005, which led to more stringent drinking water regulations.

It has been co-funded by the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government and Clare County Council under the national development plan.

Ennis Water Treatment Works was procured as a public-private partnership using a design-build-operate contract.

The team that delivered the project includes Clare County Council, Mott MacDonald Ireland Technical Data and EPS-Bowen Consortium (Contractor).
