Sembcorp Unveils Fifth Singapore NEWater Plant

Sembcorp Industries has unveiled the fifth and biggest NEWater plant, which has a total capacity of 50 million gallons, in Singapore.

The new facility, with the existing four NEWater plants, will help meet 30% of Singapore’s total water demand.

The plant, completed in two years, is a collaboration between Sembcorp and PUB, as well as other partner companies and suppliers.

Sembcorp was awarded the plant contract in 2008 by PUB under a public-private partnership initiative to be delivered in two phases over a two-year period.

The initial phase of the plant totaling 15 million gallons began operations in 2009.

The plant is housed on top pf the PUB-owned Changi Water Reclamation Plant, which employs microfiltration and reverse osmosis systems to treat used water from the eastern half of Singapore into NEWater.
