DHV, K-Water to Build South Korea’s Longest Waterway

Dutch engineering firm DHV said it has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) to build the Gyeong-in Ara Waterway in South Korea.

The Gyeong-in Ara Waterway, the longest waterway in South Korea, is 18km long and 80m wide.

The waterway will connect South Korea’s capital city Seoul to the coastal city of Incheon and the West Sea.

According to the MoU, K-Water will build the waterway and DHV will extend its expertise in planning, design and construction supervision for the waterway over the next five years.

This expertise includes building locks at the entrance of waterway near Incheon to cope with a possible 8m spring-tide difference.

South Korea hopes the waterway will help to control floods in Seoul and boost economic growth in the country.
