Bangalore Plans $2.7bn Water Crisis Fund

The Indian state of Bangalore plans to invest Rs120bn ($2.66bn) to solve the water crisis in the city of Bangalore.

The project under consideration would solve the city’s water crisis and sanitation problems, an Indian Express report said.

It is a part the city’s Long Term Action Plan, which will be completed in next three years.

Once implemented, the project will enable the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to meet the water requirement of Bangalore for the next 50 years.

The board has agreed to lay pipelines with a capacity of 500 million litres per day with an investment of Rs25bn ($554m).

The BWSSB will construct six artificial lakes with an investment of Rs45bn ($996m) to collect rainwater and supply it to the city.

Under this plan, 20 sewerage treatment plants will be constructed at the cost of Rs10bn ($221m).
