Nitron Unveils Technology to Cut Nitrate Contamination

Israeli water major Nitron will unveil its nitrate contamination-reducing technology in the US.

Nitron’s technology can free drinking water of nitrates by using Selective Electro-Dialysis (SED).

SED uses an electrical process to separate nitrates selectively from water and concentrate them in separate cells.

It provides an alternative to other technologies such as reverse osmosis or iron exchange because of its cost effectiveness and high water recovery rate by using less energy and less chemicals.

The technology is not yet available in US, but Nitron has been using the technology in 15 Israel municipalities, according to wateronline.com.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has discovered water with nitrate above acceptable levels in many US states.

The EPA warns that infants drinking untreated nitrate-contaminated water in excess could become seriously ill.
