MPI Commissions Kenyan Water Purification Unit

Multi Purpose Industries (MPI) has commissioned a $70m water purification plant in Kenya.

The purification unit will process about 45,000 to 75,000 litres of potable water per day from any polluted water source, providing relief from the country’s water shortages.

The plant, set up by the Netherlands-based company, has the capacity to desalinate saline water.

The plant is expected to provide clean water to 1.3 million Kenyans and sanitation facilities to 1.6 million others.

The new supplies of clean water are expected to reduce medical and health expenses in Kenya where water-borne diseases are responsible for approximately 72% of illnesses, according to Allafrica.com.
