HW Secures Spanish Water Treatment Contract

A Harrison Western Group-led consortium has won a contract to set up a $22m water treatment plant at Cobre Las Cruces copper mine near Seville, Spain.

The contract was awarded to HWPT, a joint venture of Harrison Western and MP Medioambiente, a Spanish water management company.

The project work includes the design, supply, installation, commissioning and operation of the water treatment plant for the copper mine, which is co-owned by Inmet Mining Corporation and Leucadia National.

The plant will use membrane-based water treatment technology and can treat up to 3.7 million gallons per day of mine water from the dewatering and re-injection.

Work on the project will be completed by the end of 2010, allowing the mine to operate at full capacity all year.
