Rwanda Unveils Gatsibo Water Project

Rwanda is to launch a RWF31bn ($56m) water storage project in Gatsibo district, Eastern Province, by September this year.

The project is financed by a consortium of the World Bank, USAID and Canada.

The World Bank will donate $34m, USAID will give $14m and Canada will provide the remaining $8m for the first phase of the project.

The project will help decrease soil erosion and meet water shortages during long dry spells in the province, according to allafrica.com.

The project is to be extended to Karongi district in the Western Province later, before being rolled out to other regions within the country.
