Indian State to Construct Rubber Dam

The Indian state of Gujarat will construct a rubber balloon barrage to store water from the Tapi River at an investment of INR1.25bn ($27m).

A 10km reservoir will be built down the river causeway with a rubber barrage that will be inflated to store water when needed and deflated during the flood season.

The proposed barrage is a 510m-long structure made of nylon coated with plastic, and will have a height of 4.5m at inflated levels.

The barrage is expected to be ready in two years’ time, according to timesofindia.com.
