Singapore Floats Largest Desalination Plant Tender

Singapore’s national water agency has floated a tender for the country’s second and largest desalination plant to be set up at Tuas.

The new plant will have the capacity to process 70 million gallons of desalinated water per day, improving the desalination capacity of the country, which hopes to increase capacity ten-fold by 2060.

The project will be constructed under a design, build, own and operate basis by using reverse osmosis technology and will be completed in 2013.

The constructor must enter into a 25-year water purchase agreement to supply desalinated water to the national water agency.

The bidding for the project closes on 30 September and the project will be awarded in the first quarter of 2011.
