Saudi Arabia Launches Floating Desalination Barge

Saudi Arabia has launched a floating desalination barge that can produce 25,000m³ of desalinated water per day.

The barge will be deployed in Yanbu, a major Red Sea port in the Al Madinah Province of western Saudi Arabia.

The desalination barge can be moved to different locations based on the water requirements of the areas, according to zawya.com

The barge uses forward osmosis rather than reverse osmosis, which reduces the energy requirement of a desalination plant to the point that renewable energy can be used to run it.
