India Approves $287m New Delhi Sewer Project

India has approved a project worth Rs13.5bn ($287m) to install interceptors in three main drains that empty sewer water into the Yamuna River in order to keep it clean.

Under the project, seven pumping stations and 59km of interceptor sewers will be laid to intercept wastewater.

Interceptors will be laid along the three major drains of Najafgarh, Supplementary and Shahdara, which account for about 70% of the total pollution in the river that courses through Delhi.

Out of the total project cost, 35% will be borne by the Indian Government and the remaining amount will be supplied by the Delhi government.
