Jain Secures Indian Irrigation Project

Jain Irrigation Systems has secured a Rs1.68bn ($36m) contract from the Indian state of Karnataka to carry out a micro-irrigation project.

The plan includes the survey, design, planning, supply and execution of the project, which will irrigate 9,900ha of land in 30 villages of the Haveri district and benefit about 5,000 farmers.

The project also includes the installation of a water distribution system, which uses the piping network, and further installation of on-farm micro-irrigation on 9,900ha of the command area, as well as two years’ maintenance.

The project will lift water through pipes, substantially improving water efficiency in canal command areas compared with traditional open canal methods.

Jain will complete the project by the end of 2012.
