Tanzania Water Project Gets EU Funding

The European Union, in collaboration with German institute KfW, has provided €23.42m ($31m) to Tanzania to implement a water supply and sanitation project in Iringa.

The project, which was awarded to JR International, involves the construction of water transmission lines, water distribution lines, sewerage pipe networks and reservoir tanks.

The second phase of the project includes upgrading the existing water treatment facilities, construction of a clean water reservoir and the installation of new pumps and booster stations.

The project also involves laying about 138km of pipelines or replacing old pipelines, while installing 127 hydrants in the municipality.

Other works include water loss reduction, the operation, maintenance and construction of 4km of lateral sewerage, the connection of 310 sewerage houses as well as the extension of wastewater stabilisation ponds.

The project will benefit more than 200,000 people in Iringa, according to thecitizen.com.
