India Invests in Drinking Water Projects

India has released a grant of Rs2bn ($43m) to provide drinking water facilities in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir states.

The grant is the first instalment of a fund worth Rs4bn ($87m) to be invested in the states during 2010-11.

The fund will be used to achieve drinking water security in villages and schools and develop systems for the judicious use of water.

The funds were allocated to state water and sanitation agencies who will be implementing the projects.
