Brazilian State Plans Sanitation Project

The Brazilian state of Maranhao is planning to launch a R154m ($85m) water project in 2011 to improve water and sewage services in Sao Luis, Sao Jose de Ribamar and Chapadinha.

Nearly R130m ($72m) will be invested in state capital Sao Luis to replace 20km of the Italuis water mains iron pipeline with steel pipes.

The other projects include an R8.85m ($4m) sewage project in Sao Jose de Ribamar and a R15m ($8m) project to expand the water supply system in Chapadinha.

The projects are being funded under the country’s growth acceleration plan, according to bnamericas.com.
