Energy and Mining Sectors to Boost South Africa Wastewater Treatment

The water and wastewater treatment equipment market in South Africa is expected to reach $25m by 2015 from $17m in 2009, according to a study by Frost & Sullivan.

The study ‘South African Water and Wastewater Treatment in the Mining and Energy Sectors’ claims that increased demand for energy supplies and regulatory compliance by mining companies in the country will drive the market.

South Africa’s energy sector, which consumes approximately 1.5% to 2% of the country’s fresh water annually, is also expected to drive the market further.

The mining and energy sectors have adopted a zero liquid effluent disposal (ZLED) policy to prevent pollution of water resources, which is also expected to boost investment in the sector.
