Switzerland Funds Colombian Wastewater Project

Switzerland will provide COP18bn ($10m) to Colombia to finance the construction of a wastewater plant that will reduce contamination in the Chicamocha River.

The proposed wastewater plant will be built in Duitama to treat the 375l per second of untreated wastewater that finds its way into the river.

The Swiss Government will also give technical assistance to the plant, which will have a capacity to treat 500l per second of wastewater.

The project will relieve the financial burden of the city because it has to pay fines for contaminating the river, according to waterworld.com.
