South Africa Launches Rural Water Project

South Africa has launched a R110m ($15m) project to deal with water shortages and assure a constant supply of water to rural villages.

The project, launched by Amathole District, will supply potable water in 38 villages across the district.

Similar projects are being planned in Amahlathi (Stutterheim and Cathcart) and Mbhashe (Dutywa and Willowvale) municipalities.

The district also plans to upgrade the water infrastructure in various towns to deal with water scarcity in the Xilinxa Dam, the area’s main source of water, according to dispatch.co.za.
