Aboitiz Equity and JVACC team-up for water project in Philippines

Aboitiz Equity Ventures and J V Angeles Construction (JVACC) have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement to build a bulk water supply project for the Davao City Water District (DCWD) in the Philippines.

The bulk water supply facility will be constructed in the city of Davao, Philippines, while JVACC has agreed to supply 300 million litres a day of drinkable water to DCWD.

As part of the project, the JV will build a hydroelectric-powered bulk water treatment plant and a conveyance system to supply the treated water to various delivery points of DCWD.

JVACC has selected Aboitiz’s company Hedcor to provide technical and operational assistance for the hydroelectric components of the project.

Aboitiz Equity Ventures president Erramon Aboitiz said the company would provide DCWD with a feasible and long term bulk water source.

"Harnessing the well-established technical expertise of Hedcor and JVACC in hydroelectric power and water-related infrastructure respectively, the project will be the country’s first and only bulk water system with a fully renewable energy powered water treatment facility," Aboitiz added.

"As a long- time partner of Davao City for over 80 years now, we once again express our commitment to support the growth and development of the city through this strategic infrastructure initiative."

According to JVACC president Jose Virgilio Angeles Jr., the water system will be a sustainable solution to meet the increasing demand for water and also focus on the city’s environment and generate clean renewable energy to power the system.

Aboitiz and JVACC are currently working on the final structure of the agreement.
