BioteQ wins second contract for mobile Sulf-IX pilot plant

Following on from pilot work carried out earlier this year, BioteQ Environmental Technologies has won a second contract to remove sulphate from wastewater generated from flue gas treatment using the mobile Sulf-IX pilot plant based on its proprietary technology.

The contract has been awarded by the same industrial company and the test work will be conducted at the same site in the US. Completion is expected during the fourth quarter of this year.

Newalta, which owns the mobile Sulf-IX pilot plant, will undertake the test work jointly with BioteQ, providing operations personnel and expertise. Biotech will provide process support and technical expertise.

BioteQ CEO Jonathan Wilkinson said that the company is pleased to have secured a second contract with the same customer to further validate and integrate Sulf-IX technology into the customer’s process flowsheet.

"We are highly confident of the technology’s ability to generate successful results during this round of testing and would hope to then move discussions forward to commercial implementation," Wilkinson added.

The Sulf-IX process produces treated effluent with low residual sulphate concentrations for re-use or discharge.

The mobile pilot plant provides on-site field testing for sulphate removal from wastewater. The unit applies BioteQ’s ion exchange-based Sulf-IX technology. Data will be collected from the pilot plant to generate design criteria for a full-scale facility.
