California municipal body selects Innovyze’s water network modelling technology

The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) in California is to use Innovyze’s InfoWater Executive Suite, a system for geocentric smart network modelling. The technology will act as the foundation to improve the fire-fighting capacity of the district’s water system.

MMWD senior engineer Kevin McDonnell said that the InfoWater software suite is a key component of the district’s updated fire flow master plan.

"By giving us a clear, detailed view of how our water system is currently working and how it could best be improved, the suite will play a significant part in helping us optimise its performance and meet the latest fire flow standards," McDonnell added.

MMWD supplies drinking water to a service area of 147 square miles and 185,000 residents and businesses in central and southern Marin County.

Its potable water distribution system comprises around 941 miles of water mains, 90 pump stations, 124 treated water storage tanks with a total storage capacity of 82MG and three treatment plants with a combined capacity of 59MGD.

Together with InfoWater, MMWD will construct a comprehensive hydraulic model of its water system in order to evaluate the need for further fire flow improvements and identify their type, location and impact.

Based on ArcGIS, InfoWater integrates predictive analytics, systems dynamics and optimisation functionality directly within the ArcGIS setting.
