Dubai Electricity and Water Authority launches new water pipeline project in Hatta

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has begun planning and laying a new water pipeline in Hatta, 115km from the city of Dubai, UAE.

DEWA’s new pipeline project is part of its programme to improve water infrastructure and meet the growing demand for water across Dubai.

The project is estimated to cost AED30m ($8.1m) and involves laying line distribution networks from 100mm to 450mm in diameter, covering a total distance of 30km.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said that the goal of the Hatta project was to increase the efficiency of water distribution networks in the area and strengthen water supply to meet an increased demand.

"This will contribute to consolidating Dubai’s position in the region, and promote sustainable development," he said.

"We have completed 10% of the total so far, and we aim to deliver water to the expanding residential areas in Hatta shortly."

The water pipeline project is expected to be completed within 14 months.

In June, DEWA awarded a contract to commission and supply a main supervisory control and data acquisition system to remotely control and monitor the data of the main water network in Dubai.

DEWA started a Dubai water pipeline project in January at a cost of AED96m ($26m).
