Ecosphere Exploration, Dominion Water to jointly explore wastewater opportunities in mining industry

US-based water engineering and services company Ecosphere Technologies’ subsidiary Ecosphere Exploration and Mining Services (EEMS) has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Dominion Water, to explore wastewater opportunities in the US state of Colorado’s mining industry.

As per the LOI, EEMS will use its Ozonix technology at mine sites in the state, to investigate and examine the mining applications of the technology.

With increasing regulations and decreasing water resources, mining industry is finding it difficult to operate competitively, while protecting the environment.

Ecosphere Technologies chairman and CEO John Brewster said the LOI gives the company a new growth opportunity to expand outside the oil and gas industry.

“The mining industry is facing an era of increased regulation and water scarcity which is driving up the value of clean water,” Brewster added.

“Mining companies must address these challenges to stay competitive – while continuing to protect the environment.”

Dominion Water president Tom Wiens said that the state of Colorado always had water quality issues and is in dire need for modern day solutions.

“The Ozonix technology is a proven non chemical water treatment technology and is being used everyday in the oil and gas industry to help exploration and production companies recycle the waters used during hydraulic fracturing operations,” Wiens added.

“The Ozonix Dominion approach is all about protecting the environment and preserving vital water resources. We are excited to begin our work together.”

US-based Dominion Water is an environmental services company that provides advanced water treatment and recycling solutions to the mining industry.
