Global Water and Martinek to introduce water leak detection system in the US

Global Water Technologies has partnered with Austria’s Martinek Water Management, to introduce its sensor and software system for early leak detection in water mains to the US market.

Martinek is the developer of the sensor and software system that provides real-time monitoring of pressure, flow and sound metrics in water mains. This data is analysed to provide early notification of changes in leak conditions.

Global Water Technologies CEO Erik Hromadka said that the partnership with Martinek is a first step in the company’s efforts to develop an early warning system to leaking pipes causing massive water loss and damage to surrounding areas.

"As water needs become more acute, we can no longer afford to continue losing large amounts of drinking water through leaking pipes and broken water mains," added Hromadka.

Global Water is looking to explore funding and development options for the new project.

The company said that given that a majority of the country is facing drought in the face of an unprecedented summer, improving water efficiency is a matter of urgent attention.

Martinek Water Management president Peter Martinek highlighted the technology’s success in Europe and said that the company looks forward to improving water efficiency to create a smarter water network in the US.
