Layne Christensen wins wastewater system contract in US

Layne Christensen Company has announced a contract with Reynolds Water Islamorada to design, build and operate a $90.9m centralised wastewater system in Islamorada, Florida, US.

Under the contract, the companies will construct the centralised system with a combination of vacuum and low-pressure sewers to collect 1.4 million gallons of wastewater every day.

The wastewater will then be transported to the district’s treatment facility, Key Largo Wastewater Treatment.

Layne chief executive officer Rene Robichaud said that the Reynolds Water team had won the contract due to the effort it put in.

"We appreciate the hard work and determination of the mayor and council, the selection committee, the village employees and consultants in bringing this landmark project to fruition," Robichaud added.

"This is another example of how the principles of our OneLayne operating philosophy are allowing us to pursue solutions-based project opportunities across all divisions and geographies."

Layne’s Heavy Civil Division is expected to start work on the engineering aspect of the project in October 2012.

The company is set to begin construction work in early 2013 and take an estimated 30 months.

The centralised wastewater system will be constructed to address the Florida Department of Environmental Protection mandate to terminate all residential septic systems and private wastewater treatment plants in the Florida Keys by 31 December 2015.
