LiqTech signs ceramic membrane agreement for produced-water treatment

Denmark-based LiqTech International has signed an agreement with Constructora Conconcreto for exclusivity in Colombia and Venezuela, following a successful 12-month trial period with LiqTech’s ceramic membranes for water filtration in the oil and gas industry.

Subsequent to the trial period, a commercial agreement was signed between Conconcreto and Ecopetrol subsidiary Hocol in Colombia, for operation of a SiC membrane installation for produced water treatment.

Conconcreto CEO Juan Luis Aristizabal said, "LiqTech is dedicated to innovating new environmentally friendly products. Their SiC membrane is by far the best product in the market and we have high expectations to our success in produced water".

During the field trials, flotation units and walnut shell filters were replaced for polishing of produced water for re-injection purpose.

By operating the SiC membranes upstream and downstream of a skimmer unit, the typical membrane feed water with oil concentration of 20ppm-100ppm was consistently treated to less than 5ppm oil in water for re-injection purpose.

The trials achieved the production capacity in the range of 200l/m²-350l/m² per hour per unit membrane surface area was without skimmer unit and reached 400l/m²-600l/m² per hour while operating downstream of the skimmer unit.
