First phase operations begin at Manila Water’s Rodriguez project

Philippine water utility Manila Water has begun operating the first phase of the PHP4.6bn ($108.8m) Rodriguez Water System Project.

The project, which includes a new water treatment plant and water distribution mainline, is expected to meet the water needs of municipalities of Rodriguez and San Mateo, in the province of Rizal.

The project will also address the current and long-term demand for reliable surface water supply in some areas of Marikina City.

Manila Water president Gerardo C Ablaza Jr said the project is in line with its promise to bring excellent water quality and sufficient water pressure to its customers, especially to those who reside in elevated areas.

"Providing safe and affordable water 24/7 to these communities will benefit the residents and support the area’s economic growth," said Ablaza.

Manila Water said the system, on completion, will serve as an alternate water treatment facility to the Balara Treatment Plant, which serves the whole east zone.
