Pentair develops nanofiltration wastewater treatment technology

Sustainable water solutions provider Pentair has developed new hollow-fibre nanofiltration technology to address growing demand for safe drinking water and water reuse.

Pentair claims its X-Flow colour removal package (CRP) simplifies the drinking water filtration process and offers industries a new alternative for wastewater treatment.

The CRP’s hollow fibre membrane delivers several advantages compared to current technologies, including a 99.999% reduction in bacteria and viruses.

Pentair technology vice president Phil Rolchigo said that the company has made several investments in developing new technologies in a bid to meet the growing demand for clean water around the world.

"Our innovation in hollow-fibre nanofiltration is its ability to treat the complex mixture of organic compounds found in fresh water. It uniquely addresses drinking water filtration challenges, and is also highly versatile in wastewater treatment across industries," Rolchigo added.

Nanofiltration enables the removal of certain contaminants such as bacteria, humic acids and total organic carbons. It also allows for selective separation in treating drinking water, so that desired levels of healthy minerals like calcium and magnesium can be retained.

Wastewater from various industries can also be treated using the CRP, including food and beverage and energy.

Pentair said that the technology can be an energy and cost-efficient process compared to reverse osmosis and can remove more contaminants than ultrafiltration processes.
