Saudi Arabia signs new contracts to implement water and sanitation projects

Saudi Arabia Water and Electricity Minister Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Al-Hossein has signed 18 contracts to implement water and sanitation projects across the country at a total cost of over SAR253m ($67.4m).

One contract involves the re-use of treated wastewater in the city of Riyadh for an investment of SAR84.35m ($22.4m). Another is the construction of the Al-Ghazlani water tank and a pumping station in Madinah for SAR25.23m ($6.7m). A sewage line will also be constructed in the Madinah Region at a cost of about SAR23.20m ($6.1m).

A project covering the operations and maintenance work for wells in Riyadh is estimated to cost SAR18.97m ($5.0m). Water networks in Qatif province and the Eastern Province will be upgraded for SAR17.84m ($4.7m).

The Water and Electricity Ministry will also commence a project to provide water to areas affected by wastewater overflows in Abha and Khamis in the Asir Region, at an estimated cost of SAR10.53m ($2.7m).

In April, the Saudi Arabia Water and Electricity Ministry signed 32 contracts for a total value of SAR824m ($219.69m) to implement water and sanitation projects across the country.

In June, Saudi Arabia’s state-owned National Water Company announced the investment of SAR50bn ($13.3bn) to expand water and wastewater infrastructure in the country and improve and expand the coverage of water services across major Saudi cities.
